Edge of the forest

Near where the 101st Airborne ‘East Company’ held their positions against the Germans in the Ardennes forest this beautiful meadow transitioned to a heavily wooded area. I found the contrast from ‘soft and flowing’ meadow to ‘upright and structured’ forest particularly striking. I wonder if the soldiers ever had a chance to enjoy such scenes and I’m very glad to have freedom today to travel almost anywhere and enjoy such landscapes.
